Right, but clearly 2.61 is not new enough or good enough to make a configure
that works with icc 10.1. Or what am I missing?

I just checked the NEWS file of autoconf 2.62 and it mentions nothing about
AC_PROG_CC_STDC or icc between 2.61 and 2.62.
