Which are the steps that you have followed when trying to build it ?

They should have been something like the following:

gzip -d c-ares-1.5.2.tar.gz
tar -xvf c-ares-1.5.2.tar
cd c-ares-1.5.2
./configure
make

Report back any good or bad findings at any step, and we'll try to
